PIMS (Paper Import Monitoring System)

Simplify Your Paper Import Process with PIMS Registration

Importing paper products into India? If so, you must comply with the Paper Import Monitoring System (PIMS)—a mandatory registration process introduced by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

At Induce India, we offer end-to-end support for PIMS registration to ensure your paper imports are fully compliant and face no customs clearance delays.

What is PIMS registration?

The Paper Import Monitoring System (PIMS) is an import regulation mechanism that requires importers of specific paper products to register online before the consignment is shipped to India. The system was implemented to monitor paper imports, encourage domestic production, and prevent misuse of import benefits.

Under PIMS, importers must obtain a registration number by filing information regarding the shipment on the DGFT portal in advance. This registration is mandatory and must be produced at the time of customs clearance.

Products Covered Under PIMS

PIMS applies to over 200 types of paper products falling under Chapter 48 of the ITC (HS) code, including but not limited to:

  • Coated and uncoated paper
  • Newsprint
  • Paperboard
  • Kraft paper
  • Toilet paper and tissues
  • Filter paper
  • Label paper
  • Specialty paper

Importers must register at least 5 days before the expected date of arrival of the import consignment and no later than 75 days before arrival. Each PIMS registration number is valid for 75 days from the date of issue.

Documents Required for PIMS Registration

To apply for PIMS registration, you will need:

  • IEC (Importer Exporter Code)
  • Valid RCMC (Registration Cum Membership Certificate)
  • GST Number
  • Product HS Code and Description
  • Quantity and Value Details
